Cassandre (“Koh-Lanta” 2024) on Gustin’s strategy: “When you create strong bonds with someone, you don’t betray them”

Having fallen out with Maxim at the end of the “Koh-Lanta” council called “linked destinies”, Cassandre seized, this Tuesday, November 5, 2024 on TF1, the new chance that was offered to her to re-enter the adventure. After opening her eyes to the double talk of Gustin, the teammate to whom she was closest in the ex-rouges, the author – she is releasing her sixth novel, “Atalante”, this Wednesday, November 6, 2024 – fooled her accomplice of origin to take his revenge and eliminate him in turn on the evening of the 33rd day. A scenario made possible by the immunity necklace given to him by Ugo, discreetly alerted to the danger lurking around his protégé by Sophia. Interview.

Puremédias: The viewers thought you were on your way to the final jury's residence. But finally, after a victory against Maxim in a contested event on the cursed tribe, you rejoin the adventure as if nothing had happened. How did you experience this emotional elevator?
Cassandra: It was an anthology of emotions! I was really sad to leave the adventure while Maxim had a necklace. I was a little angry with him, I was a little disgusted, frustrated. And there, we discover the famous message together. We really didn't expect to get a second chance. All hopes were raised again, I was extremely happy. Then, when it came time for the duel with Maxim, I was stressed because I'm not necessarily a puzzle specialist, I don't normally like it that much. I was even more happy to win the event.

“Gustin disappointed me greatly!”

Cassandra

How did you manage to re-mobilize yourself after the moment – admittedly brief – when Denis Brogniart extinguished your torch, symbol of your life on adventure?
The feeling of injustice I felt after my elimination – in the sense that I didn't have control over activating the collar – helped me refocus and be at my best.

Back at the camp of the reunited tribe, you understand, with the help of Ugo, that Gustin, your ally since the beginning of the adventure, did not tell you everything before your elimination in the episode “Fates related”. How much did he disappoint you at that time?
Really a lot! That Charlotte and Sophia are lying to me, that disappoints me a little but they didn't promise me anything, we are part of two different alliances, so I can understand it. Even though Gustin had betrayed the Reds by voting for Sarah, he always assured me that he was with me, that we would protect each other. A promise bound us both.

Do you experience it as a betrayal?
Absolutely, it's a betrayal.

“Gustin lacked emotional intelligence”

Cassandra

Betrayals are commonplace in “Koh-Lanta”. Were you prepared to fall from a height?
I wasn't prepared for that, no. Of course it's an adventure in which you have to betray people. But in my head, there are still a few privileged people with whom you are going to be until the end. For example, it would never occur to me to betray Ugo (captain of the ex-rouges and winner of “Koh-Lanta” in Malaysia in 2012 and finalist of the “Legend” edition in 2021, editor’s note) or to do not tell him that he is threatened with elimination. For me, when you create strong bonds with a person, you don't betray them even in a game! I know that we have to make choices and that in the end, there will only be one left, but still!

Was eliminating Gustin the only way out?
I was really angry, I wanted to eliminate him. I had a gap to eliminate Gustin which I rushed into but faced with 5 very united ex-yellows, I didn't have many alternatives.

“When Ugo gives me the necklace, I don't understand anything

Cassandra

In front of him, you launch into a long tirade to express the “lack of consideration” he showed towards you when he offered to save him to the detriment of Cécile. Did he lack the emotional intelligence to understand that you couldn't play into his game?
Yes, he missed it, that’s for sure! He was convinced that it was either his partner (with Ilyesse, editor's note) or my partner (with Maxim) who was going to be eliminated. He probably thought that I would understand that he had no choice. But, for me, it was never him or me (Gustin never studied the hypothesis of eliminating the pair composed of Jacques and Cécile, editor's note). We just didn't agree on the basis of the danger.

When Ugo gives you the immunity necklace that Maxim gave him when he left the island with you 3 days earlier, you seem very surprised. Do you understand what is happening at that moment? That this act of gambling follows a confidence to Ugo from Sophia, although ex-yellow, on the fate which is promised to you at the council?
Frankly, at this point, I don't understand anything. For me, there had to be a majority of votes against Gustin, a few votes against Cécile and none against me. When, during the counting, I noticed that there were ballots against me, I first said to myself that it was strange and then asked myself how Ugo knew that he had to play and entrust me with his necklace.

“In hindsight, I say to myself that we should have sealed an alliance of women”

Cassandra

Between Sarah, who resisted Gustin on the rationing of rice, the importance of which we appreciate at the end of the episode, Sophia and Charlotte who dared to eliminate Frédéric and allowed Ugo to save you, Charlotte's revelation about the trials, your duel won against Maxim… Have women gained power in this edition of “Koh-Lanta: The Cursed Tribe”?
I don't know (laughs). No, I don't think so because the color combinations are still super strong. This does not take away from the fact that Sophia and Charlotte pulled off a great move by eliminating Frédéric. But unfortunately I don't think we can say that we took power.

Have you ever wanted to form an alliance between women?
No because I start from the principle that a good alliance is not based on gender but on affinities and common values. It is for this reason that I did not want to seal a girls' alliance. Looking back, I tell myself that we should have. This would have been justified because the boys were so united alongside us (in this Tuesday's episode, Ilyesse and Thibault, contrary to the initial wishes of the ex-yellows, changed their minds and refused to vote against Gustin, editor's note ). Girls were truly the last wheel of the carriage. It's a bit of a shame!

To summarize, your journey was strewn with pitfalls: you showed a lot of bad luck with 8 black balls to your credit, Maxim dragged you into his fall in “Linked Fates”, you returned to the game against all odds thanks to a victory over the cursed tribe, you survive the next council thanks to an immunity necklace which you inherit… Are you following in the footsteps of Ugo, nicknamed the phoenix?
(Laughs) Yes, but a baby phoenix! I still have a lot of room to go before I accomplish what he did.
