Available on the Prime Video catalog, this action film which grossed more than $86 million worldwide contains a heartbreaking scene that should have been deleted, if Keanu Reeves had not fought for it to be kept !

Action movie fans certainly haven't missed out on John Wicka film by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch released in 2014 and available on Prime Video. The plot follows Keanu Reeves as a retired assassin. Since the death of his beloved wife, John Wick has spent his days repairing his 1969 Ford Mustang, with only Daisy, an adorable dog given to him by his wife, for company. When two thugs break into his home to steal the Mustang, they brutally kill Daisy… John Wick then embarks on a bloody quest for revenge, which confronts him with the criminal enterprise to which he once belonged. The death of the puppy was traumatic for many spectatorswhich is why directors hesitated for a long time to keep it in the edit.

The dog Daisy was not initially supposed to die in John Wick

During an interview given for the 10th anniversary of the film, directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch explained that they hesitated for a very long time to keep the plot in which the adorable dog would be murdered: Kill the Puppy has been deleted as many times as it has been written [dans le script]. Ultimately, it became mythological. We had to go so far, take the scene so far to let you know that it was absolutely symbolic.” Eventually, it was Keanu Reeves who fought to keep this streakas they reveal to Business Insider.

John Wick : Keanu Reeves wanted to keep this sad scene, even if no one believed it

Chad Stahelski remembers how they imagined Daisy's death scene: “John would be hit hard on the head, so it will be like a dream, the dog's death happens off-camera, and all you're going to see afterwards is this trail of blood that looks like the puppy tried to crawl up to him. So on the big day, Keanu was playing with a stuffed dog. He was crying. It was all dented. He looked terrible in his pajamas. Everyone behind the monitors must have thought, 'Okay, this is the worst idea; these newbie directors are finished'” Chad Stahelski and David Leitch reveal they were encouraged to shoot an alternate ending in which Daisy survived. “But Keanu Reeves defended us” reveal the filmmakers. Investors finally decided to trust them, and they did well, since this sequence made a big impression!
