Canal+ Group and Cyril Hanouna: will leave, will not leave? – Picture

According to information from Le Parisien on Saturday, the Canal+ group and its star host Cyril Hanouna are in discussions to end their collaboration. If the duo has worked together for 12 years around the programming of the C8 channel, the non-renewal of its TNT frequency by ARCOM last July would have precipitated this separation. Information immediately denied on alternatives to preserve the presence of Cyril Hanouna on our broadcasts after 12 years of loyalty and friendship with the group. Our commitment to Cyril Hanouna, one of the most talented and recognized animators in , is unwavering. It is also about providing our full support to the 400 employees whose jobs are directly threatened by this decision and for whom this situation is particularly worrying.” And to add that the emblematic program “Touche pas à mon poste” will be “broadcast until the last day when the frequency of C8 allows it, i.e. February 28, 2025”. “Discussions are underway to consider its future but nothing has been finalized. They take place very calmly,” he told AFP, without however indicating whether the host would join another branch of the group such as Canal+ or CSTAR, a music channel.

Let us recall, however, that the chairman of the board of directors of the Canal+ group Maxime Saada declared before the ARCOM last July, during his hearing on the renewal of the TNT frequency of the group’s channels: “I made the choice that Canal+ no longer offers programs that can be judged as information or political programs. We are very careful to protect Canal+ from these subjects which create constant problems. It is an accepted choice that Canal+ focuses on cultural and entertainment programs. It is in fact not the desire of our subscribers to come to us to watch political programs, which are widely available elsewhere. They are not prepared to pay for it. We have had broadcasts of this type in the clear, we have chosen to move away from them.” Faced with this stated doctrine, it is difficult to imagine, therefore, that Cyril Hanouna could bounce back, just in case, on the group’s channel, as certain echoes have suggested in recent months.
