End of 2025, a new Cartier Foundation

The institution, which has just celebrated its 40th anniversary, offered a first glimpse of its future headquarters at the Palais-Royal.

Not a few isolated journalists but a good hundred, from and elsewhere: the crowds this Friday morning at the site visit of the future Cartier Foundation for Contemporary indicated the interest that accompanies this project. Although the opening is only announced for the end of 2025 (on a date not yet specified), work has already been underway for 4 years, under the authority of Jean Nouvel, to completely remodel a building from 1854, classified as a historic monument and which formerly housed the Louvre antique dealers. The location could not be more central: the immediate neighbors are the Louvre, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Bourse de Commerce, the Jeu de Paume – a district called to have the highest cultural concentration in the world…

6 500 m2 exhibition

Why move? By retracing the foundation’s journey since its establishment in Jouy-en-Josas in 1984 (when it was then the first corporate foundation devoted to contemporary art), its president, Alain-Dominique Perrin, recalled its capacity to develop and expand.
