What we know about the actor’s next role in a biopic about the Maserati brothers

We hadn’t seen him since his remarkable performance as an emperor in “Those about to die”. Actor Anthony Hopkins will play his next role in the story of another empire. The one founded by the Maserati brothers, at the origin of the cars that contributed to Italy’s fame.

An actor who has something under the hood. Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins is expected to star in “Maserati: The Brothers,” a biopic about the founders of the eponymous trident brand. Directed by Bobby Moresco, the feature film highlights the story of three engineer brothers who began manufacturing high-performance automobiles in a garage in Bologna.

“A dream come true”

Anthony Hopkins, a regular in thrillers, seen in “The Silence of the Lambs” or “Hannibal”, is this time offered the role of an Italian financier who subsidizes the Maserati brothers. News that delights the film’s producer, Italian Andrea Iervolino, who in a press release declared that “Having Anthony Hopkins on board is a dream come true.” “His unparalleled ability to portray complex characters will undoubtedly elevate our story, and we can’t wait to see how he brings depth to his role,” he adds.

Andrea Iervolino’s previous company, ILBE Group, is no stranger to stories about car designers from La Grande Botte. He produced the biopic “Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend” and was also one of the producers of “Ferrari” by Michael Mann, with Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz in the cast.

The story of a family that reached the heights

The Maserati company was founded in 1914 by three brothers in a garage in the Italian city of Bologna. In the heart of the Emilia Romagna region, nicknamed “The land of engines”, Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto undoubtedly shine with their talent as engineers. Very early on, the company, now renowned for its luxury cars cherished by collectors, entered the world of automobile racing. The Tipo 26, the brand’s first Grand Prix car, is the first chapter in a long, roaring saga.

It was also the vehicle that Alfieri Maserati drove in the 1927 Messina Cup race, when he narrowly escaped a fatal accident. The engineer died a few years later, at just 44, from complications linked to the impact, leaving behind the trident brand, a logo designed by Mario, one of the six Maserati brothers. The original artist, having studied Fine Arts, lived just opposite the main square of Bologna where there is an allegorical fountain surmounted by a figure of Neptune, the god of the oceans. Looking through his window, he was inspired by the trident held by the statue to make the future Maserati logo.

Other casting details for “Maserati: The Brothers,” which will soon begin filming in Bologna, are still being kept secret.
