“We were fooled…”: Alain Marschall and Olivier Truchot explain themselves after the incident with Rima Hassan (LFI) on BFMTV

During the BFM Story from Tuesday October 8, 2024 on BFMTV, Alain Marschall and Olivier Truchot brutally interrupted an interview with Rima Hassan. The latter, interviewed in duplex to comment on the booing against Emmanuel Macron during the ceremony honoring the victims of Hamas attacks against Israel, openly criticized the editorial line of the channel recently bought by Rodolphe Saadé, boss of the shipowner CMA -CGM.

The European MP for La Insoumise criticized BFMTV for having received congratulations from Olivier Rafowicz, spokesperson for the Israeli army. She notably argued that the channel would have “sooner or later we have to be accountable as a media”. Words that Alain Marschall and Olivier Truchot could not let pass. A skirmish followed before the two hosts chose to end the interview.

“A trap…” : Olivier Truchot and Alain Marschall look back on their eventful interview with Rima Hassan on BFMTV

From the plateau of What an era! on Saturday October 12 on France 2, those that the public can also find at the presentation of the Big Mouths returned to Rima Hassan’s comments. After the broadcast of the extract where Olivier Rafowicz congratulated BFMTV’s coverage of the Israel/Hamas conflict, they wanted to provide an update. “He misses the beginning because before that, he yells at Benjamin Duhamel since we have just broadcast a report that we did in Gaza with Palestinian teams (…) He criticizes Benjamin Duhamel for this report which he finds subjective. So it starts like this. Instead, he berates Benjamin Duhamel and then, in my opinion, to rebalance himself, he corrects himself. After that, only the spokesperson for the Israeli army is involved.”explained Olivier Truchot.

Alain Marschall outbid by estimating that the LFI MP wanted “make a move” and agreed to intervene live in BFM Story with “another idea in mind”. We were naive, we were fooled… We wanted to invite her, she said no, and all of a sudden, she said yes. We should have sensed that there was a trap… This is why we behind us have to interrupt. Because we control our antenna and there is no reason to be insulted. In any case, let the BFMTV editorial team be insulted.”reacted Olivier Truchot.

“Behind, there are threats, we allude to the Nuremberg trial by saying ‘the journalists who were complicit in the Nazi regime, that’s you too’. And we are threatened with a Nuremberg trial…”he added. To which Léa Salamé concluded: “Indeed, it’s taking people who are on the ground hostage. And that can be dangerous in times of war…”.
