Difficult words to write for Deryck Whibley… This October 8, the leader of the rock group “Sum 41” – who broke up a year ago – released a book entitled “Walking Disaster, my Life Through Heaven and Hell » (Literally: A walking disaster: my life through heaven and hell). A memoir in which the 44-year-old Canadian singer opens up about the difficult ordeals he suffered in the past. If he talks about his family, his passion for music or even his heightened sensitivity, Deryck Whibley also made serious revelations. He claims to have been sexually assaulted by his former manager.

The rhythm guitarist was only 18 years old at the time of the events he reports. His attacker was 34. According to his writings, cited by the “Los Angeles Times”, it was during an alcoholic evening that Greig Nori committed the act. The latter allegedly asked Deryck Whibley to isolate himself in the toilet so that the two could take drugs together. In the book, he relates that the first manager of “Sum 41” allegedly “grabbed his face” and “kissed passionately”, before sexually abusing him.

It was with his girlfriend at the time, Avril Lavigne, that Deryck Whibley finally found the courage to confide. “It’s a deep, dark secret that I thought I would take to my grave,” the singer explains to the Toronto Star. The singer, whom he met in 2004, reportedly replied: “It’s abuse. He sexually abused you,” putting his experience into clear words.
