‘I took care of him and kept him close to me’: Elvis Presley’s grandson’s body stayed with his mother for two months

While Lisa Marie debated whether to bury Benjamin in Hawaii or Graceland, Tennessee, where Elvis is buried, she kept his body in dry ice for two months in a house separate from her home in Calabasas, Tennessee. Riley Keough, Lisa Marie’s daughter and Benjamin’s sister, says her mother was very keen to have “enough time to say goodbye to him, just like she did with her father”Elvis Presley, died in 1977 when she was only 9 years old. “It was important to me that my father stayed at home after his death because it allowed me to spend time with him and talk to him”explains Lisa Marie.

In her memoir, Lisa Marie describes her experience with her son Benjamin’s body, noting that the room where he lay had to be kept at a temperature of 12.7 degrees. “I got so used to his presence, caring for him and keeping him close. I think most people would have found it scary to have their son in those conditions, but not me.”she writes. She also expresses her gratitude for being able to take care of him for a time, which allowed her to accept the idea of burying him.

Riley also describes this period as one of the most absurd times of his life. After two months, Lisa Marie and her daughter felt a change in the atmosphere of their home, ultimately prompting them to bury Benjamin. He now lies next to his grandfather Elvis at Graceland.
