This testimony highlights the tensions between the defense and the victims’ relatives, raising questions about the media treatment of this sensitive trial.

Their testimonies were eagerly awaited. On Tuesday October 8, the brother and son-in-law of Dominique Pelicot testified during the Mazan rape trial. Pierre P. the husband of Gisèle Pelicot’s daughter thus mentioned deterioration of health from his mother-in-law in recent years.

In fact, this one worried his family who had “very difficult to reach her”. According to Dominique Pelicot, his wife often slept because she was “very tired from looking after the children”. When she answered, however, she held “incoherent comments” et “seemed really in the gas”. An attitude that the son-in-law explains today: “I understand now that the only objective was to keep her under his yoke”.

Dominique Pelicot’s son-in-law is attacked over his profession

During his hearing, Pierre P. faced the lawyer Nadia El Bouroumi. The one who defends two of the 51 accused thus attacked the son-in-law of Dominique Pelicot on his profession and his status at the Mazan rape trial. As a reminder, the husband of Gisele Pelicot’s daughter is journalist and editor-in-chief for BFMTV.

Faced with him, the one who arouses controversy on social networks declared: “You are not a civil party in this case. I think it’s because your position is delicate. You are editor-in-chief at BFMTV. For me, the publicity of debates when viewing videos (of rapes, editor’s note) poses a problem to me. On BFM, you only talk about the accused as monsters”.

Journalist defends himself after lawyer’s attacks

Visibly in disagreement with Nadia El Bouroumi, Pierre P. decided to defend himself. The father first indicated that he informed his management of the facts. He also recalled that the floor was always given to the defense in the handling of the case.

Gisèle Pelicot’s son-in-law notably ensured: “The individual is sometimes outraged and totally outraged by your line of defense. The journalist remains professional. I would never have allowed myself to say anything in the way of talking about the Mazan trial on our channel.”. An answer which has the merit of being clear.
