What is anaphylactic shock, which actor Michel Blanc suffered?

Michel Blanc, known for his role as Jean-Claude Dusse in Les Bronzés or even as Aymé Pigrenet in I find you very handsome, died on the night of Thursday October 3 to Friday October 4, 2024 at the age of 72. A death as sudden as it is brutal. According to our colleagues from M6 and BFMTV, the actor suffered a serious allergic reaction.

At the end of the day, Thursday October 3, 2024, Michel Blanc was admitted to hospital to undergo a medical examination. A contrast product, making it possible to improve the visibility of the organs during medical imaging, was injected into him. Unfortunately, the actor suffered one of the side effects of this drug: anaphylactic shock. Information also confirmed by his long-time friend, Gérard Jugnot, this morning on RTL: “I was told that he had a huge allergy, an anaphylactic shock, an allergy to a medication”.

An allergy considered an absolute medical emergency

This serious allergic reaction is considered an absolute medical emergency. It is caused in the majority of cases by foods: eggs, shellfish, sesame, cow’s milk, goat’s milk, fish, exotic fruits or even nuts. Anaphylactic shock can also be triggered by a hornet, wasp or bee sting. Or following medication, as was the case for Michel Blanc.

Angioedema then formed, a dangerous swelling of the mucous membranes of the head and neck, causing heart discomfort. Rescuers tried to resuscitate him, to no avail.

Upon the announcement of his death, brutal and unexpected, the big names in cinema saluted the memory of a talented and human actor. Emmanuel Macron also paid tribute to the actor on “monument of French cinema”.
