“Would you ask a man this question?” : discomfort on C to you, Kate Winslet reframes Pierre Lescure after a sexist remark

Kate Winslet did not appreciate Pierre Lescure’s comment on the set of C à vous this October 2, 2024.

Kate Winslet was the guest on the show “C à vous”, this Wednesday October 2 for the release of the film “Lee” about the photographer Lee Miller, on October 8.

“You strip yourself without hiding some curves”

The actress thus spoke of the extraordinary life of this free woman who marked war photography forever. If Lee Miller was Man Ray’s muse for years, notably posing for magazine covers, Kate Winslet insists: “So the magazine cover model was just a small part of her life. She was so much more than that.”

The 48-year-old actress also appears “unvarnished” in “Lee”, as Pierre Lescure pointed out: “To portray this free and stubborn woman who made fun of the gaze of others, you assume wrinkles and dark circles to show her physical and psychological fatigue”he first said.

And to continue; “You strip yourself without hiding a few curves. It’s a deliberate choice that sometimes went against the suggestions of the film crew.”

“It was very important to me to play Lee Miller. It’s the most important privilege of my life, to be able to play a person with such power and magnetism.”

“Rarely would my male counterparts be asked this type of question”

If Kate Winslet first answered his question by explaining that “everything has been done for authenticity”, she did not fail to reframe the 79-year-old journalist: “It’s very interesting that you ask that question because, forgive me, but would you ask that same question of a man, of an actor?”she asked.

“It’s true that it’s an interesting conversation because a lot of women want to have this conversation about being truthful, authentic and expressing a positive message. But for me, it’s so fascinating that rarely would we ask this kind of question to my male counterparts”, she added.

Faced with the silence of Pierre Lescure, the actress concluded by evoking “privilege” that she had to play “a character with so much power”.
