“That’s what saved me”: Paul Mirabel cash on the impact of humor in his life

After four years of good and loyal service in The original bands by Nagui and Leïla Kaddour-Boudadi on Inter, Paul Mirabel said goodbye to listeners on September 3, but not for very long. The one who is soon going on tour for his second show called “Par amour”, will join Léa Salamé and Nicolas Demorand during 7/10, their morning show, from Tuesday October 22, 2024. He will write a mood post on the news and Le Parisien specifies: “France Inter has largely renewed its team of columnists this year, with around fifteen new comedians on the microphone (Elena Nagapetyan, Ahmed Sparrow, Marine Leonardi…). Emblematic voice of the station for several seasons, Paul Mirabel is changing his niche“.

Paul Mirabel, a love story with humor

As the start of his tour approaches, the comedian gave an interview to our colleagues at Match on what humor has changed in him. On the desire to make jokes, Paul Mirabel confided: For as long as I can remember, I have seen myself in the DVD section of Fnac in hanging out in the comedians’ corner. I realized quite quickly that it was a somewhat ‘niche’ passion, since I was the only one in my class to be so interested in humor, Gad, Florence Foresti, Jamel, and especially Jamel Comedy Club. I watched it imagining that I would end up in that world. But I had no idea how I was going to get there. Even speaking in front of my class at that time was inconceivable.”.

But then why humor when you are so reserved? This is what saved me from many situations on a daily basis. Using words and jokes to defend yourself when you don’t necessarily have the physique or the courage is practical. I also think that I tried a lot to make my mother laugh, who still took care of the three of us, including my autistic little brother. My mother is funny, she allowed me to act stupid, to say stupid things, where in some families that would never have happened.”he remembered. And to mention the fact that his mother is the one who allows him to keep his feet on the ground and not get a big head, but not only that!

Paul Mirabel spoke of the important role of his brother: “Qhen you have an autistic little brother, it anchors you quite a bit in reality anyway (…) We are very close, we get along really well. And for me, that’s real life. The rest is a nice little cruise. His autism has inevitably impacted who I am.”. “Growing up with someone different allowed me to have a different perspective on the world”he concluded wisely.
