Yves P. Pelletier pays tribute to his brother François, 40 years after his tragic disappearance

«Placed on a shelf in my office, this photo is part of my daily life. We see me there alongside my brother François and our dog Cléo, probably when we were watching TV in 1974 (Six Million Dollar Man? Daniel Boone? La Petite Patrie?).

Today, September 28, 2024, François would have been 61 years old. His life ended in the spring of 1984. He was 20 years old. He was run over on a sidewalk on St-Laurent Street by an impaired driver. of intoxication. It’s been 40 years this year.

Whether I look at this photo or not, I think of him every day. But on September 28, his birthday, there is always a surge of emotions: a scar that heats up, a heart that breaks, a head that rebels.

A vehicle can become a lethal weapon. Driven by an intoxicated person, or consumed by their phone, this probability increases exponentially.

When driving, let’s pay attention to others. Let’s take care of ourselves “, he confides.

Yves expresses how painful this loss remains, especially every September 28, his brother’s birthday.
