Kaylia Nemour invited to canal+, she talks about Algeria, Tebboune and its future

Kaylia Nemour, recently crowned Olympic champion at the 2024 Games, shared an emotional moment after her historic triumph. A few hours after her victory on the uneven bars, the gymnast received a personal call from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This symbolic gesture had a profound impact on the young athlete, who today embodies a true source of inspiration for an entire country.

During the broadcast Click broadcast on Canal+, Kaylia confided to Mouloud Achour her surprise and her emotion at this unexpected exchange.

“The president called me with a completely normal number. He congratulated me and told me that I was a source of pride for Algeria. It touched me enormously. I didn’t know what to say, I thanked him constantly,” said the young champion, still moved by this mark of recognition.

In return, she expressed her own pride in representing her country, emphasizing the importance of the honor.

An exceptional journey marked by success and challenges

August 4, 2024 will forever be engraved in the annals of Algerian sport.

That day, Kaylia Nemour made history by becoming the first African gymnast to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

An unexpected victory for the young girl who, in her childhood, had never dared to dream of such a feat. “I didn’t think I would be able to win gold,” she confides humbly.

His stellar performance also captivated the attention of an international audience, including many celebrities in the stands, such as Snoop Dogg, Ariana Grande and Tom Cruise.

“I didn’t know there were all these stars in the stands. I discovered it two hours after the competition,” says Kaylia with surprise.

In 2021, at just 14 years old, Kaylia had to undergo a second operation due to osteochondritis, a condition that could have ended her sporting career.

Despite the recommendations of French doctors not to return to competition, Kaylia showed extraordinary determination.

After careful consideration with her family, she decided to compete for Algeria, a decisive choice that took her to the top of world sport.

An overflowing passion for baking

If gymnastics is at the heart of her life, Kaylia Nemour has another passion: baking. When she’s not on the competition mats, she relaxes by baking cakes, including the famous peanut cookies, inspired by famous pastry chef Cédric Grolet.

“My mother preferred mine,” she jokes, proudly revealing her culinary skills.

Baking isn’t just a hobby for Kaylia. She is even considering making it a long-term career and dreams of opening her own pastry shop.

For her, life is not limited to gymnastics: with projects in her head, she aspires to continue to excel, whether as an athlete or as a future pastry chef.
