In , Pavel Durov was placed under judicial supervision and charged with six offences. He is notably suspected of complicity in allowing crime to flourish without prevention or cooperation with the police on his platform.

It was in this particular context that his ex-partner Irina Bolgar met the journalist from Parisian in Geneva, in an establishment that Pavel Durov and she attended. Their children, now aged 7, 8 and 11, were also regulars there. Children over whom she has parental authority – she had filed a complaint against Pavel Durov for allegations of violence against their youngest son.

During this interview, we first learn that the boss of the encrypted messaging service Telegram has always hidden the existence of this ex-partner and their children. According to her, he also has two other children, born before they met. Here again, he said nothing and it was through the press that she found out.

Pavel Durov, a father who is very rarely present in his children’s lives

It must be said that Pavel Durov does not seem to be very family-oriented.He saw the children only when he wanted to.not every day. When we lived together, he preferred that they stay in their roomsand when he wanted to spend time with them, he asked me to take them to him for an hour or two. He never spent a whole day looking after the little ones.” she told the Parisian. A surprising attitude indeed.

This father, who can be described as absent, would also not have hesitated to put pressure on the mother of his children, even if it meant putting his offspring in a delicate position. In 2022, after our separation, he did everything to force me to move to Dubai with the children, by cutting off our supplies and especially by refusing to sign the papers for the extension of their residence permits in Switzerland. His goal was to force me to move against my will to a state where my rights would not be protected as in Europe. In the Emirates, only the father has parental rights over the children” she explains.

According to her, Pavel Durov is an arrogant man, “drunk on his success“, in short, very self-centered to the point of not even “wish children happy birthdays“.

The couple eventually broke up. Today, Irina Bolgar describes her ex’s behavior as “inappropriate, towards children“and her.”I am not allowed to go into the details of these behaviors, as this is the subject of an ongoing investigation. But I can say that I felt that my children were no longer safe.” she says.

A few hours ago, Irina Bolgar posted a long message on her Instagram account, discussing parental responsibility. Without ever naming Pavel Durov, she nevertheless sets the record straight, seeming to respond to some of her detractors.

It’s time to speak out: social norms need to change. Unfortunately, in our society, it has become common to remain silent when parents shirk their responsibilities towards their children. When a father disappears from his children’s lives, without getting involved emotionally or financially, it is seen as the ‘norm’. When a woman is left alone with the children, she is forced to sacrifice her career, personal life and interests to take on the responsibilities of both parents. And society finds this acceptable. You can keep throwing stones at me, but I will speak to these social issues directly and bluntly.“, she wrote in particular. A word to the wise…
