Featured in The Perfect Couple on Netflix, Nicole Kidman plays the role of Liev Schreiber’s wife, none other than the ex-husband of her best friend Naomi Watts. During an interview, the actress revealed that she consulted her best friend before shooting certain scenes.
For Nicole Kidman, friendship comes before everything, even her career. In her latest role in the series The Perfect Couple (currently available on Netflix, Editor’s note), the 57-year-old actress plays opposite Liev Schreiber, whose wife she plays. However, the actor is none other than the ex-husband of Naomi Watts, the actress’s best friend.
While they have been friends for over 30 years, Nicole Kidman made sure to put her friend above all else, even before accepting the role. An anecdote revealed during an interview with Liev Schreiber at Entertainment Tonight. “I heard you asked Naomi if everything was okay,” the 56-year-old actor began. “Of course!” Nicole Kidman replied, without hesitation.

“Isn’t it amazing? That’s how close they are,” added Naomi Watts’ ex-husband. Despite their split, Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts seem to be on good terms today and have each moved on. The two actors dated from 2005 to 2016 and share two children, Sasha born in 2007 and Kai born in 2008.
“We are best friends”
Reacting to this excerpt, Naomi Watts confirmed her friend’s approach. “We always check in, we’re best friends. It was very kind of her to do that,” she said.
The two actresses met as teenagers while auditioning for an ’80s swimsuit commercial, while waiting for the jury to make a decision. “We covered everything, movies we liked, friends we had in common, our parents, schools, parties, boyfriends, teenage stuff,” Watts said in April 2024. She recalled being touched when Nicole Kidman offered to drop her off on her way home in a cab “even though it was 20 minutes out of her way and it was $15 more on the meter.”
Since then, the two women have starred together in the film Flirting in 1991, a shoot that considerably strengthened their friendship.
