Marcel Pelchat Coiffure, of Laurier Québec, did not do things by halves on September 5, holding a cocktail party at the Pierre-Lassonde Pavilion of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ) for the most important launch in its history. After presenting the video of the salon’s new promotional campaign, Rose Pelchat (Marcel’s daughter), instigator of this and the online store marcelpelchat.ca, and Martin Rocheleau, master hairdresser and co-owner of the salon, took turns speaking before introducing the new face of the company, the author, screenwriter and host Kim Levesque-Lizotte. Moreover, a beautiful family story unites Marcel Pelchat and the Lévesque-Lizotte family of Quebec. Marie-Claude LevesqueKim’s mother, also personified the beauty ideal of her time by becoming the image of the Marcel Pelchat brand in 1992. And, for her part, Charlotte SoucyKim’s grandmother, was among those who entrusted the then talented young artist (Marcel Pelchat) with the task of creating a distinctive hairstyle for them. Coming out of retirement for a discreet presence at the MNBAQ, Marcel Pelchat was visibly proud to see his daughter, Rose, take over and to consider how far his salon has come in nearly half a century in Laurier Québec. I met Marcel in the mid-1980s at TVA Québec with his famous Look 87 and International, a friendship that has lasted almost 40 years.
