Prince Albert II made a remarkable appearance in more ways than one on September 1, 2023. It was the Monegasque sovereign’s first major public engagement since his vacation. It was also an exceptional appearance since the prince was present in a brand new medium. This Friday, the Head of State launched the new Monegasque state channel, simply called TVMonaco.

Another element that made this moment even more important, Princess Charlene stood close to her husband. The couple’s joint appearances are rather rare, except during major events in Monegasque life, such as major festivals on the calendar and various charity balls. The new Monegasque channel directed by Nathalie Biancoli is available on channel 9 of the offer of the operator Monaco Télécom, specifies Télésatellite. This is not Monaco’s first state channel. In 1954, Prince Rainier III launched Tele Monte Carlo (TMC). Prince Albert referred to his father and he explained how happy he was to experience the birth of a channel in turn. “It is for me a great pride, a great joy, a great emotion to be there, with Princess Charlene, to launch this great adventure of this channel which, I believe, will make the Principality shine in the world, thanks to also on the 5 Monde network. In addition to its broadcast in the Principality, as well as 100 kilometers around on the local TNT, several programs of the channel will travel in Francophonie thanks to a partnership with TV5 Monde.

TMC left the Monegasque fold a few years ago. In 2005, the Pathé group, which owned 80% of the shares, resold them equally to the TF1 group and the AB group. The Monegasque State definitively sold its last remaining shares (20%) in 2016, and TF1 became 100% owner of the channel.
