Former Director of Sports at Canal+, Charles Biétry suffers from Charcot’s disease (or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a serious and disabling degenerative disorder which leads to progressive paralysis and whose outcome is unfortunately fatal. Moreover, Charles Biétry intends to remain in control of his life but also of his death since he has decided on an “assisted suicide” in Switzerland.

This law, a first step, can offer us freedom and dignity. THANKS”commented the 81-year-old former sports journalist, having great hope in the end-of-life law then under discussion in .

He has difficulty speaking, etc.

Guest on the set of What an era! in November 2024, his friend Michel Denisot spoke of their very strong ties and also gave his news. “Charles, he’s a friend from before Canal + (…) He has difficulty speaking, etc., but we communicate a lot by text messages“, he said, before adding with a touch of mischief: “We make predictions on all the matches every time, and we have never won.”.
