Method Man was accused of punching a man multiple times in the face during an altercation at a gym in New York (United States).

Rapper Method Man, member of the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, allegedly attacked a man by hitting him in the face seven times in a gym, according to police sources cited by the New York PostThursday January 16. The incident, involving a 28-year-old man presented as a family friend, is believed to be linked to a past relationship with the musician’s daughter, dating back more than ten years.

The alleged victim, although suffering from facial pain and dizziness, reportedly refused medical treatment on site. A complaint was filed with the police, but no arrests have been reported. “Mr. Smith categorically denies the reported allegations and has not been the subject of any arrests by any law enforcement agency,” said a representative for the artist, whose real name is Clifford Smith.

Legal troubles in the past

This isn’t the first time Method Man has been in trouble with the law. In 2007, he was arrested for drug possession after being stopped by a police officer in Brooklyn for an expired registration. During the arrest, the agent was exposed to a puff of cannabis smoke when the rapper lowered the window of his car.

Two years later, he also found himself in Staten Island Criminal Court for failing to report his income from 2004 to 2007 to New York State, thereby accumulating a tax debt of $32,799. He attributed the forgetfulness to his regular marijuana use, telling reporters: “I forgot to pay because I was high. It was stupid.”

In addition to his music career, with a Grammy Award won for his duet with Mary J. Blige on “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By,” Method Man has also built a career as a prolific actor. He is particularly recognized for his notable roles in series like “Oz”, “On the Listen” and “The Deuce”.
