Singer and businesswoman Jessica Simpson has put an end to rumors about her floundering marriage by confirming to People her separation from her husband, and father of her children, Eric Johnson.

“Eric and I are living apart and going through a painful situation in our marriage,” Jessica Simpson, 44, told the magazine People.
“Our children come first, and we focus on what is best for them. We are grateful for all the love and support we have received, and we appreciate our privacy at this time as we work through this as a family,” she added.
The couple married in July 2014, after four years of dating, and have three children: Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 12, Ace Knute, 11, and Birdie Mae, 5.

The news comes less than a week after the stylist, who has three children with former NFL player Eric Johnson, posted a sunny selfie on Instagram, reminding her followers that “life is short […] SMILE while you still have teeth.”
-Eric Johnson, 45, was seen without his wedding ring in November, around the same time his wife announced her “return” to music on Instagram by revealing photos of herself in a recording studio.
“Interviews in my music room in Nashville where I unearthed my unique magic,” she wrote in the caption. This return is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I didn’t deserve.”
The couple met through a mutual friend in 2010 and got engaged in November, after six months of dating.
Jessica Simpson was previously married to singer and host Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2005.
