In response to a question from Éric Dussart in We’re remaking TV On RTL, Stéphane Bern spoke about the memory of his father and brother who recently passed away and confided how their disappearances changed his outlook on life.

Passionate about heritage, history, royalty and culture in the broad sense, Stéphane Bern delighted many viewers, notably with Secrets of history on France 3 or even Let yourself be guided on France 2. Guest ofEric Dussart et Jade this Saturday, September 14, 2024 in the weekly show We’re remaking TV On RTL, the man who is also president of the Académie Grévin commented on his prosperous years on Canal+, at the time when he hosted 8:10 p.m. sharp. Eric Dussart asked his guest if he missed this talk show format where he received personalities.

Stéphane Bern against the conformism of certain shows before discussing the changes in his life

Stéphane Bern replied that he liked the irreverent tone of the show but that he had to comply with the audience’s demands: “We have to do what people expect of you. That is, people want to see you as the well-behaved boy who presents the coronation of King Charles.” The host then deplores the conformism and lack of audacity of today’s television: “I used to love the host shows and I find that we don’t really know how to welcome guests by making fun of them a little anymore. That’s the salt. Now, people come, they’re on promotion so it’s roll out the red carpet for me.”

“We are nothing”: Stéphane Bern gets emotional when talking about his missing loved ones

This era takes itself so seriously. We are nothing!“, continues Stéphane Bern before going on to talk about the death of his father Louis, in 2022, as well as the loss of his older brother Armand, who passed away a few months later the same year at the age of 59, and explaining how much that changed his outlook on life. “I say it without false modesty, I lost my father, I lost my brother. When you lose people who are so close, who you think about all the time and you find yourself alone, you tell yourself that life is so short. It only takes a little thing to lose people, to lose those you love. So, what am I going to take myself seriously? I’m just a poor mortal. I’m going to end up in dust in a short time.” Yori Bailleres’ companion also said that he would love to have a talk show to present again: “I would love it because it would combine two passions. Receiving people who make cultural news and then at the same time telling them horrible things.”
