“He’s not a father. Maybe by blood, but nothing else.” This is the poor image of Dennis Rodman with his own daughter, Trinity. The latter, aged 22, spoke about her relationship with her illustrious – and sulphurous – father in the podcast “Call Her Daddy”.

Born from the union between the former Chicago Bulls basketball player and Michelle Moyer, Trinity Rodman made a name for herself in the United States, where she broke through as a footballer. Crowned National Women's League champion in her first year among the big boys, in 2021, the Washington Spirit striker quickly joined the American selection with whom she won the gold medal at the last Olympic Games.

Trinity Rodman helped the U.S. women's soccer team win gold at the Paris Olympics this summer.

A family left behind

Trinity Rodman may have become an accomplished athlete, but she still has to deal with the heavy weight of her last name. This is all the heavier to bear as she harbors resentment towards her father. “He’s an extremely selfish human being,” says Trinity Rodman in “Call Her Daddy.”

The young woman claims that she and her brother Dennis Thayne (known as “DJ”), a year older, suffered from the absence of Dennis Rodman and the little attention he gave them. Especially after the divorce from Michelle Moyer, in 2012: “Before that, he gave my mother money and let us live a little. But when the divorce happened, he said to himself: 'Fuck off.'

Then mired in financial problems, Trinity Rodman says she was forced to live for a time in a car, then in a motel and share a room with her mother as a teenager. “We tried to live with him, but he throws parties 24/7, he brings random girls,” she laments.

Interested appearance

Trinity Rodman also recounts the time, during her first professional season, when she saw her father in the stands during a momentous championship match, after they had not spoken for months: “I started crying on the field. I was so angry. I said to myself: “You took this moment of happiness from me. You played a trick on me again.”

At the final whistle, the Washington player burst into tears in the arms of the five-time NBA champion. The first step towards reconciliation? “After that, radio silence. I didn't see him until… this year, she cuts in, bitterly. I was stupid to think that this was going to be some sort of new spark. Since then, I lost all hope of ever getting it back.”

From this episode, Trinity Rodman draws a sad observation: “He appears every time he wants to be filmed. At this match, I think he wanted to clear his conscience and ensure that the media reported that he had gone to see his daughter.

This outing did not go unnoticed by the main person concerned, who wrote a text in the form of a mea culpa on Instagram: “I'm sorry for not having been the father you wanted me to be, but I I tried anyway, I'm still trying and I'll never stop. […] I always had one wish, that my children would call me and come see me. I hope this will come true one day. I'm still trying to pick up the phone, you have my number, you see me calling. I'm still here.” “PS: I watch you play all the time,” adds Dennis Rodman.

“A joke,” his daughter replied dryly.
