Floor Jansen and Troy Donockley discuss Nightwish's worldwide fame and their role as potential heirs to the metal torch.

Growing popularity

In an interview recently republished by ProgFloor Jansen and Troy Donockley, members of Nightwish, spoke about the group's level of notoriety, particularly in South America, and the challenges of such success. With videos like Élan reaching over 65 million views on YouTube and Noise having racked up two million views in just three weeks after its release, Nightwish continues to captivate an international audience.

Donockley shared an anecdote about the intensity of their concerts in South America: “During Élan, I could barely hear myself playing because of the fans singing. It was incredible. Floor sometimes had to stop and wait for them to calm down, but they wouldn't stop. It was like being the Beatles there…And then I come back to York [en Angleterre]I'm going to Morrisons [un supermarché]and no one pays attention to me.”

Despite their phenomenal success, the members of Nightwish enjoy their relative anonymity in other regions, which allows them to find some balance.

Ready to carry the metal torch, says Steve Harris

With an impressive career and performances that draw crowds at the biggest venues and festivals around the world, Nightwish is seen as a potential successor to the metal titans. Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris said in an interview: “If any band can carry our torch, it’s Nightwish.”

Floor Jansen reacted with humility: “It’s a huge honor, really huge. When someone like Steve Harris says that, you think, 'Wow.' But do we really want it? We are very happy with where we are. That said, if there is going to be a transition, we will take it as it comes.”
