At Fun Radio, we also have its Pékin Express. Less ambitious geographically but no less unusual for all that. It is called Péket Express. The first edition took place last year, on the occasion of the Walloon festivals. A male and female host from the station – in this case Simon and Mano who hosted the afternoon – were each in a duo with a listener. The objective: to reach Namur, the Walloon capital, as quickly as possible.

The new season of Pékin Express will not be broadcast in Belgium

Same again this year but with a difference. Simon and Mano, who run the 3pm-7pm slot of Fun Radio, will face Lara Bellerose and James Deano who host the evening show offered between 8pm and 11pm. They will leave from point A to go to the centre of Namur where they will have to brandish the first péket, all without money, without using a smartphone (they will have a phone but only to receive alerts) and by only hitchhiking. In short, they will have to be friendly and convincing to the people who can help them.

To make this race against time more difficult, Fun Radio’s production team has come up with challenges for them to overcome – culinary, sporting, mental – and stages to follow.

Anything goes

The start will be given on the main square in Mons and the two pairs will have some 130 km to cover in the hope of winning the duel. Note that anything goes. “Between them, they do what they want,” jokes Justine Laurent, Marketing Manager and Program Coordinator, who remembers the first edition when one duo took the usual route down from the citadel of Namur, while the other hurtled down the slopes without taking the paths into account. “The slightly mean tricks are what production will do,” she adds.

A Pekin Express organized for residents of nursing homes: “It helps you stay young in your body!”

This second edition of Péket Express is coming to Fun Radio this Saturday. But the whole adventure will be broadcast in episodes starting next week on the station’s social networks. This will be a way for listeners to get to know the hosts in a new light.
