She had sung with Aznavour, Nougaro, Montand, Dalida or Johnny: Vallauris mourns her golden voice, Anny Camos

With the disappearance of Anny Camos, affectionately nicknamed “Auntie Ni” by her great-niece Audrey, a page in the artistic and human history of Golfe-Juan is turning. Born in Vallauris in 1932, the eldest daughter of the famous Provençal painter Honoré Camos grew up in the city of potters with her brothers Jean, Tony and Maurice (sadly also deceased), immersed from her earliest childhood in the artistic environment which was to determine his destiny. The family home then resonated with the discussions and festive songs of his father’s friends, whose names were Rellys, Andrex and Fernand Sardou.

With the renowned orchestras of the Côte d’Azur

Endowed with a good voice like her brothers, and encouraged by her grandmother who loved opera, young Anny gave her first concert on the Place de l’Homme-au-Mouton, on the occasion of the Landing celebrations. Participations in various singing competitions, successes and prizes then followed, and Anny Camos, whose notoriety was growing, performed with the most renowned orchestras on the Côte d’Azur.

Working during the day as a decorator in the Cérenne pottery workshop in Vallauris, the young performer attended galas in the evening and was required to open for many Parisian stars of the time.

She shared the stage with Aznavour, Nougaro, Montand, Roger Pierre and Jean-Marc Thibault as well as Jean Poiret, Michel Serrault and Dalida, who was her great friend. But also with a young 16-year-old rock’n’roll singer named… Johnny Hallyday.

Always the same, endearing, simple, kind, despite success

Married in 1974 to Jean-Louis Monnery, double bassist for Ray Ventura and Jacques Hélian, she also met Georges Guétary, Henri Salvador, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, and even shared a “beef” in Juan-les- Pines with Count Basie, who accompanied her on the piano in “Les Feuilles Mortes” by Prévert and Kosma.

However, all these successes did not turn his head. Anny Camos always displayed the same endearing personality, made of simplicity and kindness, and her passion for her city at heart, in which she remained until the end of her life, performing voluntarily until a few years ago, during charity evenings or during association festivities.

Funeral this Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Sainte-Anne Saint-Martin

We will not forget, in Vallauris Golfe-Juan, his clear and expressive voice, his sparkling gaze and his involvement in the life of the city of potters.

His funeral will be celebrated this Friday, December 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Sainte-Anne Saint-Martin church. Anny Camos will then join her husband at the old Vallauris cemetery. -Morning shares the grief of his sister-in-law, his nieces and nephews, his family and all those affected by this bereavement.
