More than 21 years after the end of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Sarah Michelle Gellar would be ready to reprise the role of Buffy Summers.

More than 21 years after the end of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Sarah Michelle Gellar would be ready to reprise the role of Buffy Summers.

SERIES – An idea that is starting to work. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the title character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer for seven seasons, wasn't really ready to reprise her role before. But the actress was inspired by the comeback of old series and would no longer be against a return to the license created by Joss Whedon.

It's in The Drew Barrymore Show that the interpreter of Buffy Summers admitted for the first time that she had changed her position. “It’s funny. I used to say “no”, because it’s self-sufficient and it’s so perfect like that.”she initially justifies herself. “But look [la suite de] “Sex and The City” et voir [le préquel de] “Dexter,” and realizing that there are ways to do it, it’s really sobering, I’m like, “Well, maybe.” then concedes the actress.

However the actress, who will be appearing in Dexter : Original Sin, does not yet know what form this hypothetical return could take more than 21 years after the broadcast of the final episode. “It could be anything. I mean it's a universe, and I think we need heroes more than ever.”she concludes.

A cult series that already has an extended universe

In Buffy the Vampire SlayerSarah Michelle Gellar played a high school student, then young adult, vampire slayer, in a series halfway between urban fantasy, horror and comedy. Broadcast between 1997 and 2003, Joss Whedon's creation enjoyed great success which only increased over the seasons, until it became fully part of popular culture in the 2000s.

Nominated several times for Emmy Awards, the series won three awards. The Buffy Summers singer also received a Golden Globe nomination in 2001.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer had already expanded at the time with the spin-off Angel between 1999 and 2004. This followed the adventures of the eponymous character played by David Boreanaz (Bones)who played a vampire with a human soul who hunted crime as a private detective.

The universe of the two series has also had numerous spin-off stories in comics and/or novels since.
