The Nasher Museum of Art of Duke University presents the first major exhibition of contemporary photography examining the influential concept of the Anthropocene, the period in which humans have impacted the planet. Second Nature: Photography in the Age of the Anthropocene highlights the evolving awareness of humanity’s impact on the planet, exploring the complex web between humans, industry and ecology and recontextualizing our understanding of our past, present and future.
Presented until January 5, 2025, Second Nature features works by 45 emerging and established artists from around the world, including Edward Burtynsky, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Cara Romero, Anastasia Samoylova and Will Wilson, organized into four sections: “Reconfiguring Nature,” “Toxic Sublime,” “Inhumane Geographies » and “Envisioning Tomorrow”.
After the presentation at the Nasher Museum of Art, Second Nature will be exhibited at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University and at the Anchorage Museum in Alaska.
