Former Minister of the Economy, Emmanuel Macron left the government in 2016 to create his own political party (La République en Marche, editor’s note). He was clearly aiming for the 2017 presidential election. A winning bet, since Brigitte Macron’s partner was elected to the highest level of government that year.
