According to the latest American opinion polls, Kamala Harris would be a possible new face to take over from Joe Biden in the next elections. The current president, weakened by a “bad night” before his last debate against Trump, is struggling to make people forget his age at the start of the campaign. Fears are growing in the Democratic camp, from voters to donors, four months before the deadline.

And the vice president, although isolated for most of Biden’s term, seems willing to put on the gloves. A career plan for which she will have to count on her entire family: her husband Douglas Emhoff and the latter’s children, very close to their stepmother, Cole et Ella Emhoffborn from Douglas’ marriage to the producer Kerstin Emhoff – herself having an excellent relationship with her children as well as with her ex-husband and Kamala Harris – whom they like to nickname “Momala”, a cross between Mom and Kamala.

The family was formed in California, when Kamala Harris was working as the state’s attorney general; she met Douglas Emhoff on a blind date in 2013, they married a year later and the bond remains strong to this day, although her two stepchildren have long since gone their own way. While the vice president and her knight in shining armour live their daily lives in the country’s political capital, Washington, the children have gone their own way. Cole Emhoff has taken up residence in Los Angeles – he works for Plan B, the production company for Brad Pitt – and lives with his wife Greenley Littlejohnto whom he was already engaged when Kamala became vice president, who holds a senior position in a multinational company serving brands such as Levi’s and Nike. The ceremony was officiated by Kamala herself, not at the White House (where fewer than twenty marriages have been celebrated in all of history), but in Los Angeles.

A gift for needles

Ella Emhoff, on the other hand, has a more artistic bent and holds a degree in arts from Parsons University in New York. She made a splash in the spotlight with a Miu Miu look at the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris in January 2021. Ella Emhoff, who had already made a few appearances as a model, quickly signed with IMG Models and has been living her life alongside her fashion career ever since. From her unwavering presence at the shows—as a model or, as we saw this year with Moncler, as a guest—to the relationship she has had for the past few years with Sam Hine, fashion editor at GQ.

But while fashion represents a significant part of her professional life, the youngest of the Emhoffs (now 25, four years younger than her brother Cole) devotes herself fully to Soft Handsher personal brand, born from her gift for needles. A talent that has taken the form of a collection (in 2021), but also a knitting club, the Soft Hands Knitting Club, which meets from time to time in hotels in Manhattan’s East Village or in chic bars in Brooklyn. Ella, who has been knitting since childhood to treat her anxiety, told Hypebae that in both fashion and art, she has always sought to “achieve that ultimate goal of discovering your own creative voice.”
