Amandine Chazot, French stand-up paddle champion, is no more. The vice-world champion in 2017 and 2019 who won the national title six times died at the age of 33 from cancer, as reported by our colleagues at West France. In addition to her sporting achievements, she carried the Olympic flame during the Brittany League relay. Last June, our colleagues met her and she spoke to them about her fight against the illness that she admitted “fight intensely. “Alone on the water, I feel a sort of fusion with the ocean, it's like a meditation.” she also confided about her well-being in the water. The Brittany League reacted to the sad news on Facebook “with immense sadness” facing the “premature departure” of a “exceptional athlete and a source of inspiration for our entire community.” “Amandine was not only a great champion, she embodied the deep values of our sport: perseverance, passion and immense humility”they added.
Then to continue with emotion: “His light and his smile will continue to shine in our memoriesand his journey will remain an example for future generations. Forever in our hearts, (…) she will remain a model for all those who share the love of the ocean and water sports.”. The League of Brittany wanted to send its “most sincere thoughts to her family, to her husband Boris and her young son Cillian, to her loved ones and to all those who were lucky enough to cross her path”. There have been numerous tributes since the announcement of his death and the town of Pont-l'Abbé also wanted to publish a tender message. We were able to read on Facebook: “Amandine was a member of the French team, representing the city, she had been twice vice-world champion of stand-up paddle (2017 and 2019), she won the national title six times. She carried the Olympic flame during her passage at the point of the Torch..
Tributes pour in
The Pont-l'Abbé paddle club admitted to having the “broken heart”and recalled the impact that Amandine had on the city and on this practice. “Amandine, it was you who instilled the dynamics of Stand Up Paddle on the Pont-l'Abbé river. You motivated us to create our Club, you inspired the young people of Pays Bigouden… For all that and much more… Thank you!”they sadly wrote. In addition to his sporting career, the athlete Amandine Chazot was also radiologist at the Cornouaille hospital center. In 2020, she posted a photo of herself on Instagram to celebrate the end of her studies. “11 years of study is a long time but it's worth it! Yesterday, I defended my medical thesis in Brest”she said on October 8, 2020. She leaves behind her husband Boris and Cillian, their little boy.
