“Today, we celebrate the 90th birthday of Pierre Vidot, an emblematic figure of Reunion Island. He was 12 years old when it became a department. He is the memory of the island.

Born on July 6, 1934, Pierrot Vidot is recognized for his role in the revival of maloya and sega, as well as for his famous song “Toué lé jolie”. His collaboration with Alain Peters on the album “Chante Albany” and his cover of “Commande” by Jean Albany are testament to his commitment to Creole culture.

Pierrot Vidot recently released a box set including works such as “La voune” and “Habitant”, highlighting his role as “passer of memory”.

Retired director of the consular chamber, Pierrot Vidot continues to inspire with his dedication and love for Reunion Island.
