Picasso, Braque, Sanfourche, Bacon, Chagall…One of the most beautiful auctions of the year in Limoges

The big names in painting competed for the public’s favor this Thursday at the Limoges Enchères auction house. For Limougeauds nostalgic for good food, there were also stained glass windows by Francis Chigot, formerly owned by La Taverne du Lion d’or.

“There are three sales of this level per year”Nicolas Constanty, the auctioneer, knows that he can expect good bids.

In the room, 90 buyers are ready to compete for one of the 357 lots, and online or by phone, there are 600! Suffice to say that the works can be sent anywhere across the world. But not all.

The buyer of a Sanfourche wants the artist to stay in Limousin “he is a local artist, who died in Saint-Léo, we see his works a lot in Haute-Vienne, there is an affectionate side, and it is becoming more and more rare, his paintings are exported so I finds it nice that his paintings remain in Haute-Vienne.“

For this other work by Sanfourche, “two characters in a totem”, estimated between 1000 and 1500 euros, the bidding is heating up:

Francis Chigot’s stained glass windows inspire curiosity, those of Limougeauds delighted to rediscover what made the charm of La Taverne du Lion d’or, this restaurant on rue Fitz James, crowned with two stars in the Michelin guide. While the lots are estimated at 700 euros at the highest, one of them goes for 2000 euros.

A lithograph by Francis Bacon “August 1972” was sold for 4,400 euros by an online buyer.
