Dolph Lundgren sees the end of the tunnel. It is with undisguised joy that the Swedish actor shared good news regarding his health, after a bitter battle against illness.

The actor in testosterone-filled action films such as Aquaman et Creed 2 kept his kidney cancer, diagnosed in 2015, a secret for eight years. He underwent treatment while continuing to work on films.

“No more cancer cells”

The 67-year-old star posted a video on Instagram this week, just before undergoing lung ablation in a minimally invasive procedure that uses thermal or cold energy to destroy cancer cells. “I'm here at UCLA, I'm about to get rid of this last tumor,” he said in sterile scrubs on a hospital bed. “As there are no more cancer cells in my body, I assume I will be cancer free and I am looking forward to this procedure. »

Relieved, he continued: “It has been a difficult journey that has really taught me to live in the moment and appreciate every moment of life,” he continued. “I mean it’s the only way to do it. »

Less than three years to live

In the caption of the video, we can read: “Finally free from cancer, with gratitude and enthusiasm for a bright future. Thank you for all the support you have always given me.”

It must be said that the actor has come a long way. Following the discovery of a liver tumor in 2021, he shared the grim diagnosis from the medical profession, who had “started saying things like, 'you should probably take a break and spend more time with your family'.” specifying that he had been given “two or three years” of life expectancy at the time. “I could read in his voice that he probably thought it was less,” he says of his doctor.

Fortunately, the actor sought a second opinion, and the oncologist recommended another treatment, targeting a mutation common in lung cancer. “If I had followed the other treatment, I had about three or four months to live,” he assures.

From 2022, the treatment has proven itself. “For me, every day is a blessing, I really enjoy it and I’m happy about it,” he said. The one who stood up to Rocky was able to show how combative he is also outside the ring.
