This weekend from Friday November 29 to Sunday December 1, the Folie des arts association, whose premises are located at 11 rue Amiral-Courbet, in Béziers, is highlighting a 28-year-old artist, Arthur Jemms.
The young man has been painting since his adolescence in Normandy. “My parents had art books, it came naturally to me. I started at 13, first with manga, then I moved towards landscapes and portraits.”
After a graphic design school in Aix-en-Provence, he followed a course in an art school in Marseille. He will eventually graduate from Fine Arts in Marseille, where he currently resides. But it is this week, in Béziers, that his first official exhibition will take place, where he will present a wide range of his work. “It retraces everything I have done since my adolescence. Portraiture is the most present theme, faces are what I draw most often.” His paintings and drawings are a combination of bright colors, rapid strokes, sometimes collages, creating a complex visual universe, a reflection of his imagination. His figurative and expressionist style is available in various techniques, acrylic, watercolor or oil painting. The president of Folie des arts, Catherine Fayal, discovered these works at the young artist’s parents’ house, who live in Béziers. It was for her “a favorite” who convinced her to do him the honors of her gallery.
“This exhibition will mark the start of a great artistic career”she insists.
Visitors will be able to get to know the world of Arthur Jemms during the two-day opening,is November 29 and 30 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, December 1 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
