Josh Brolin will do everything in his power to ensure that Denis Villeneuve has an Oscar for Dune 2, including stopping his career. Well, he's the one who says it.
The year is not yet over the Oscars are already shaking up all of Hollywood. Media like Variety or Indiewire regularly update their lists of contenders or favorites, as if everything was already decided in advance. Behind the scenes, the campaigns specializing in the event, famous for their intensity… and their price (ask Justine Triet, director ofAnatomy of a Fall), are probably in full swing, in anticipation nominations, January 17and the event, March 2, 2025.
Among the titles expected this year, there are of course several blockbusters, including Dune, part twoa big box office success with more than $714 million in revenue for a budget of $190 million. According to some, its director Denis Villeneuve deserves to win, or at least compete for, the trophy for best director. In any case, that’s Josh Brolin’s opinion.who accompanied his request with a hell of an ultimatum.
An Oscar for Villeneuve and Dune?
Following the publication of his autobiography, the interpreter of Gurney Halleck, mentor of Paul Atréides, engaged in Variety. Obviously, he is still annoyed that Denis Villeneuve did not not nominated for best director for the first part (despite the 6 Oscars won by the film).
This time, it's the right one, or Hollywood will have to do without its Thanos:
“If he is not nominated this year, I will end my career. It was a better film than the first. When I saw it, it felt like my brain was split in two. It's a masterstroke, and Denis is one of the greatest filmmakers. If the Oscars still have meaning, they will recognize it”
Although his threat is probably a joke (at least we hope), his passion for this second opus is sincere. However, his wish will not necessarily come true.
At the moment, are expected, according to Variety for example: Ridley Scott (Gladiator II), John M. Chu (Wicked), Sean Baker (Anora) or Edward Berger (Conclave). But Villeneuve obviously has every chance of joining this selection, he who was appointed in 2017 for Premier Contact…and in 2022 for the scenario of Dune: Part One.
If he were to miss the boat again, he can try again with the third partprobably taken from Dune : Messiahproduction of which should begin in summer 2025. Whatever happens, Brolin's career should continue for at least a while, since he will be starring in the next At loggerheadsmuch awaited Weapons by Zach Cregger and the highly anticipated Running Man by Edgar Wright, alongside Glen Powell and Katy O'Brian. If he continues to choose such projects, his early retirement will be regretted.
