Son of a farmer in Garravet, Brice Darrieux has had a pretty crazy year. Between Australia, Barbelivien and his first EP, the 21-year-old from Gers talks about his early career in the music industry.

“I arrived at this school, I didn’t know how to sing. A year later, I released a record.” Everything happened very quickly for Brice Darrieux. A lover of music and the guitar since a young age, he had a click during his long journey: “I left alone in June 2022 to Australia for a year. There, I started writing a lot of songs. songs. I sang and I liked it. When I came back, I asked myself: Why not go to school?” the artist recalls.

This is how the son of farmers found himself on the benches of the Dalida Institute in Aix-en-Provence. There, at the singing school, Brice stood out: “I arrived with my shirt, my Gers style, my guitar… It pleased. My world is close to that of Francis Cabrel. Some criticized me for it, others told me that we hadn’t seen a Cabrel for 40 years,” he says.

Brice has experienced an incredible rise in one year.

The comparison with the performer of “La Corrida” is obvious, because of the great source of inspiration he represents for the Gersois: “I’m a fan. I liked this way of writing songs with his guitar and telling stories”, confides Brice.

However, it was another monument of French song that would cross his path: “Thanks to my rural side, one day the school director asked me to perform a song about farmers, composed by Didier Barbelivien. He didn’t know that my parents did this job and that I had been immersed in this world all my childhood. So I went up to Paris, I met the composer and we became friends,” confided the 21-year-old.

The result of this meeting will be a cover of the song “Le feu aux fermes”. In the process, he publishes his cover on social networks, meets his agent and signs his first contract.

This is how, together, they set about creating an EP: “One of my best memories is arriving at the professional studio and seeing a team of musicians setting up and listening to my songs Seeing your productions played by such talented professional musicians is incredible!”, he enthuses.

A first EP this summer

Freshly completed, this EP is made up of four “very folk and French song” tracks where “the instruments are placed around the guitar and the voice”. It also testifies to Brice’s personality: “The summer solstice tell about my trip, adventure, etc. The southern beachesit’s more the desire to return home… There is a very present side of attachment to one’s region, just like the agricultural environment”, says the singer.

Two tracks from this EP will be released in mid-July, the other two at the start of the school year. Two clips are also on the artist’s schedule before he immerses himself in the finalization of his first album “The world does not turn round”, composed of around ten titles and in which Brice hopes to have “a few signatures from big authors”.
