Many people are organizing their departure from the United States. Unfortunately, the election of Donald Trump against Kamala Harris was a hard blow for many communities, such as the LGBTQIA+ community, but also for racialized people, who fear a new rise in racism in Uncle Sam's country.
Eva Longoria is one of them. Like several stars, the actress revealed by the series “Desperate Housewives” did not hide her disappointment with the results of the American presidential election. And she made a clear decision.
“Things have changed”
Born in Texas, Eva Longoria is of Hispanic origin, but of American nationality. Although she grew up between Mexico and Spain, she spent “her entire adult life” in the United States. However, today, she no longer finds her place in this country, as she explained to Marie Claire US.
“Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, things had started to change. The vibe was different. Then Covid came, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Let it be the increase the number of homeless people or taxes, not that I'm criticizing California. I feel like this chapter of my life is over.”
Very harsh words towards the new president
Faced with the election of Donald Trump for a second term, after four years under the presidency of Joe Biden, Eva Longoria does not mince her words: “The shocking part is not that he won. It's that a convicted criminal, who spreads so much hatred, could find himself in the most important position,” she denounces angrily. “If he keeps his promises, America is going to be a terrifying place.”
Already, during the first election of Donald Trump in 2016, Eva Longoria had felt worry. “I asked myself, 'Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?' I was so detached, because I truly believed in my soul that the best person always wins. And then it happened, and I was like, “Oh, wait. The best person doesn't always win.”
Also, this time, she made the decision to leave the United States, very happy to have the “privilege” of being able to do so. “I can escape. Most Americans aren't so lucky. They're going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and I'm sad and anxious for all these people.”
Today, Eva Longoria, her husband José Bastón and their six-year-old son, Santiago, live between Europe and South America, depending on the commitments of the actress and her husband.
