Subway, Le Grand Bleu, Nikita, Léon, Le Cinquième Élément… At 65, Luc Besson has directed numerous successful films, eight of which appear in the list of the 100 greatest French film successes in the world. In 2015, during the 40th Césars ceremony, he received the gold medal from the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques for his “exceptional artistic and entrepreneurial contribution to French cinema over three decades”. While almost everything he touches turns to gold, the director makes a lot of money. On August 10, 2020, Capital magazine assured that he received a salary of around $1.6 million per year. “He will also receive 400,000 to 1.6 million dollars for each scenario; plus 2 to 6 million dollars for each production; plus a few hundred thousand dollars for each production,” it was specified. While he is not to be pitied financially, Luc Besson considers it entirely fair to pay more taxes than the average French person.
