Franck Dubosc recounts his years of intense dependence: “I smoked too much, two packs a day. I couldn’t take it anymore, I only lived between two cigarettes.” At Rose's microphone on October 31 for her podcast Counter-Addictions and on the occasion of Tobacco free monthhe explains how cigarettes ended up seriously harming his health. It was a warning from his doctor that triggered a major realization. Franck Dubosc tells Rose: “I'm having vocal cord surgery and I say to myself: 'this will be the opportunity, after that I'll stop, I'll stop smoking but afterwards (…) I'll smoke a little more.' So I don't put out the last cigarette. I am having vocal cord surgery and the doctor tells me: 'We removed a harder area, we're going to analyze it, if it's not cancerous I will advise you to stop, otherwise it will come back.' He then explains that it was this sentence from his doctor that scared him and really served as a trigger for him to stop lighting cigarettes. This warning sign, combined with the loss of his godfather, who died of lung cancer, convinced him to act to preserve his life. The actor and comedian explains that he stopped immediately but he still insists that it is a daily struggle. Because addiction, as Rose points out, is a disease.
Franck Dubosc and the challenge of quitting smoking
Franck Dubosc describes his weaning as a succession of small victories, thanks to the help of the patches. “Every day was a reward”he explains. The death of his father, who suffered from Charcot's disease, was another turning point that helped him give up cigarettes.
