A noble heritage and a prestigious education
Although his title is not officially registered in Great Britain, Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, from a lineage originating from Bergamo, does indeed belong to the Italian nobility. Indeed, in 1913, King Victor Emmanuel III awarded the title of “Count Mapelli Mozzi” to all legitimate male descendants, in agnatic line, of the family, even if the current Italian Republic does not recognize it. However, it was at the Portland Hospital in London that he was born on November 19, 1983, almost 41 years ago. His father, Alessandro, is a former Olympic skier based in England, and his mother, Nikki Williams-Ellis, an interior designer and a Member of the Order of the British Empire. On his maternal line, Edoardo's great-grandfather is Sir Robert Burrows, a famous businessman and Liberal Party politician.
Edoardo will therefore grow up across the Channel, in a privileged environment, raised in the most prestigious institutions, at the Dragon School in Oxford, at Radley College, then the University of Edinburgh, where he studies the history of art and obtained a master's degree in political science. In his spare time, he travels a lot, becoming passionate about skiing and outdoor sports. Very present on social networks, notably Twitter, he also shares his experiences as a globetrotter, when he does not hesitate to express himself on subjects that are close to his heart, such as the plastic pollution of the oceans or whaling in Japan. Or by supporting Hillary Clinton's candidacy for the 2016 American presidential election.
A dazzling career in luxury real estate
Edoardo will very quickly make a name for himself on the London real estate market, thanks to his talents as a developer and his knowledge of aesthetic codes. In this regard, her mother, Nikki, will discuss her creativity and unique ability to discern potential in spaces that others might overlook. In 2007, at just 23 years old, and with the support of his parents, he founded the company Banda Property, specializing in the design and renovation of luxury properties, a sector where his taste will work wonders. “Design is important for your emotional state,” he often reminds us.
His main idea is to develop and rehabilitate houses in relatively “undervalued” areas of the British capital, which has sometimes led him to express critical positions about the urban policy pursued by the municipality. The company recently completed a collection of townhouses in London's sought-after Leinster Square, Bayswater. Along with his mother and brother-in-law Tod Yeomans, he holds directorships in a number of other companies. On the charitable side, he is co-founder of the Cricket Builds Hope association, which aims to use cricket as “a tool for positive social change” in Rwanda. In 2012, he cycled 100 km in London at night as part of the Nightrider Challenge to raise funds.
Travel and family life
In a relationship with the American architect of Taiwanese origin Dara Huang, from 2015 to 2018, he had a son Christopher – aka Wolfie –, now 8 years old. In 2020, his marriage to Princess Beatrice – whom he has known since childhood – will only increase his prestige in his field of activity. In private, Edoardo – affectionately nicknamed “Edo” by his friends – has the reputation of a warm and approachable character, “truly intentional” and with a real sense of humor. Combining tradition and modernity, he will be able to reconcile his professional activities and his royal relations.
Edoardo, Beatrice and their daughter Sienna Elizabeth – born September 18, 2021 – will initially live in an apartment in Saint James Palace. At the end of 2022, they moved to a mansion in the Cotswolds, an idyllic countryside in the southwest of England, where Edoardo's parents already resided. Their luxurious property, estimated at £3.5 million – around €4.2 million – has six bedrooms and several reception rooms, a vast garden and swimming pool, as well as an independent pavilion, ideal for receiving the Duchess of York when she wishes to visit them.
In a recent interview with Financial TimesEdoardo lamented that his work forces him to be “always on a train”, far from home, in search of pieces of furniture and art objects in the auction rooms of Belgium, France or from Italy. In addition to his real estate activities, he has just launched Banda Gallery, which offers a selection of quality works of art, furniture and household items. On the other hand, its main company also operates on five continents, in New Delhi, Milan, in the Alps, in Los Angeles or in the Hamptons… “And this is only the beginning!”, warns our prince of business.
