Jeremy Strong doesn’t regret being done with the “Succession” series

In an interview with the British site The Times of London, Jeremy Strong confided that the role of Kendall Roy in the series “Succession” had “screwed him up”. And that he was eager to move on in his career.

A relief. In full promotion of the film “The Apprentice”, in which he plays lawyer Roy Cohn, mentor of Donald Trump in the 1970s, Jeremy Strong had harsh words regarding his experience in the hit series “Succession”, affirming that playing a character as tormented as Kendall Roy had “screwed him up,” and that he had lost “touch with joy” because of it.

“This series has been a gift from heaven. The material was a feast. I miss that. But Kendall’s struggles were a weight to carry for seven years. And there are so many other things I want to do,” he explains in an interview with the British site The Times of London. Asked if he would be willing to reprise the role in a spin-off centered on Kendall Roy, Jeremy Strong was categorical. “It’s not something I want to do anymore. I realize that it was one of the highlights of my life, but I don’t miss it,” he says.

Move on

Jeremy Strong also states that he rediscovered his taste for comedy at the conclusion of the series, and that the role of Roy Cohn in “The Apprentice” offered him the opportunity to get rid of the role of Kendall once and for all. “There was a moment at the end of the series where I deeply questioned whether I had just experienced the high point of my life. Followed by the determination to get out of it as quickly as possible in order to be able to try something else,” he says.

Launched in 2018, “Succession” is one of the most awarded series in the history of American television. Jeremy Strong himself won an Emmy Award (2020) and a Golden Globe Award (2022) for Best Actor for his performance as Kendall Roy, the eldest son of a patriarch who controls one of the world’s largest media conglomerates, seeking to appoint his successor at the head of his empire. A fierce battle for power between him, his brothers and his sister will then tear the family apart.
