In a long handwritten statement addressed to the American press, Janice Smalls Combs defended her son, ensuring that he was not “the monster” described in the media.

While rapper Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy, has been in conflict with the American justice system for several months for alleged acts of sexual assault, rape and sex trafficking, his mother broke her silence on Sunday October 6. In a long letter addressed to the American press, through her lawyer, Janice Smalls Combs defended her son, saying he was the victim of “public lynching”.

“He has made mistakes in the past”

“I come to you today as a mother who is devastated and deeply saddened by the allegations against my son, Sean Combs. It is heartbreaking to see my son judged, not for the truth, but for a narrative created from lies. Witnessing what feels like a public lynching of my son, before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence, is a pain too unbearable to describe,” she wrote, adding that P. Diddy deserved to be able to “share his point of view and prove his innocence”.

“I’m not here to paint a perfect picture of my son, because he’s not. Like all of us, he has made mistakes in the past. “My son may not have told the whole truth about certain things, like denying he was violent with an ex-girlfriend when hotel surveillance proved otherwise,” the octogenarian conceded. , referring to the complaint filed at the end of 2023 by singer Cassie Ventura, the rapper’s companion from 2007 to 2018.

At the time, the American star had denied these allegations, until a surveillance video from a Los Angeles hotel, dating from 2016, resurfaced in May 2024. We saw P. Diddy brutalizing the singer, kicking her numerous times while she was curled up on the ground. The rapper then posted a video apologizing for his “unacceptable” behavior. At the same time, a financial agreement was reached with Cassie Ventura and her complaint withdrawn.

“My son is not the monster they described”

In her statement, Janice Smalls Combs believes, however, that this episode does not constitute proof of her son’s guilt, given the 120 complaints filed against him. “It is important to recognize that none of us, regardless of status, are immune from fear or mistakes. “Failure to be completely frank on an issue does not mean that my son is guilty of the disgusting allegations and serious accusations against him,” she insists.

After defending her son at length, Janice Smalls Combs ended up expressing her pain over this situation. “Watching the world laugh and have fun at the collapse of my son’s life is something I can never forget. It’s scary to see everyone turn so quickly against my son, because of lies and false ideas,” she confided, judging that the complaints filed by the numerous alleged victims were only motivated by the lure of gain. “My son is not the monster they portrayed him to be, and he deserves the opportunity to give his perspective,” she reiterated, before concluding. “I can only pray that I will be alive the day he can finally speak his truth and take revenge.”

Arrested on September 17 in Manhattan, Sean Combs, 54, was immediately placed in pre-trial detention. He is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn Federal Prison, New York. His three requests for bail were refused.
