Podcast guest In the retro by Déborah Grunwald, Booder spoke about how he experienced the rumors claiming that he had an illness. He explained that the most difficult thing was the messages from some parents.

Booder is back on stage with a new show called At school. In the latter, he talks about his education and draws a parallel with today’s education, taking his 13-year-old son as an example. He was a guest on the podcast In the retro by Déborah Grunwald to discuss this show, but also to look back on her career and personal life. He spoke about the illness he had as a baby, because of which he almost died, but also the consequences of his atypical physique because of which he was sometimes confused with an advertising hero.

Booder reacts to illness rumors

Hospitalized after a few months, Booder managed to escape and has been in good health ever since. However, his atypical physique meant that many people looked at him in the street and that never bothered him. “It never affected me. I found it funny. […] That’s what self-deprecation is, making fun of the way others look at us.“, he assures. Once he became famous, rumors that he had an illness also surfaced. “Afterwards, it made me laugh a little less when I started to see on Google that I was being given names of diseases“, he admitted. This had some consequences on his audience.

Booder opens up about the impact of illness rumors

These rumors affected the comedian because people contacted him, thinking they were true. “It made me laugh less, not for me, I found it funny, but when parents wrote to me and said: ‘Yes, my son has the same illness as you.’ And that’s complicated because there’s a lot of work to be done with parents saying: ‘Listen, I’m not sick, you have to stop watching the networks’ […] I had to justify myself a bit to explain but I always ended up saying: ‘Listen, if you want me to talk to your child, I can talk to him so that he accepts himself as he is, that’s no problem. I’m not sick. I look like my great-uncle who was a personality in the village where I was, he is a great pediatrician and I am very proud to look like him“, he said.
