He is a leading actor in American soap opera Days of our lives who left us. Actor Drake Hogestyn, who played the role of John Black for 38 years on the soap opera, died this week of pancreatic cancer, his family announced. He was 70 years old.

“We will miss him every day of our lives”

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn. He was taken by surprise by this pancreatic cancer but he faced this challenge with immense strength and great determination”his family said in a statement. And added: “After fighting, he died in peace surrounded by his loved ones. He was an incredible husband, father and actor. He loved performing for the Days of Our Lives audience and sharing the stage with the crew. We love him and will miss him every day of our lives.”

More than 4,200 episodes in Days of our Lives

It was on January 24, 1986 that Drake Hogestyn played for the first time in Days of our lives. For more than 4,200 episodes, he distinguished himself in the role of John Black, an enigmatic character who wore the hats of spy, mercenary, private detective and police officer. In the 1980s and 1990s, Drake Hogestyn also stood out in the musical series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as well as in several television films such as Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues, One Stormy Night et Night Sins.
