3 years after his death, Marie Griessinger Tapie, wife of Laurent Tapie, will release a book dedicated to her father-in-law. On October 3, 2021, Bernard Tapie died following his long battle with stomach cancer.
His four children, Sophie, Stéphane, Laurent and Nathalie, accompanied him until the end. Marie Griessinger Tapie was also very close to him and had directly asked his permission, in 2015, to write a book about him.
The surprising revelations of his daughter-in-law
Lurking like Bernard published by Les Presses de la Cité, is the name of the work. However, nothing prepared his family for his departure. Bernard Tapie even had several projects in the coming months. “Several weeks before dying, he still imagined himself participating in car races on the Montlhéry circuit and break a speed record!” explains her daughter-in-law

In addition to sporting challenges, Bernard Tapie had another project that he shared with his family: “Et a few days before passing away, he saw himself becoming Prime Minister and even President of the Republic.” As a reminder, Bernard Tapie was a deputy and regional councilor in Bouches-du-Rhône, but also a European deputy. He was also Minister of the City.
An unexpected death for those close to him
The former manager of Olympique de Marseille died on October 3, 2021 at the age of 78. Death was a taboo for him,
he didn’t want the subject to be brought up. At the end of his life, he was in enormous pain and had refused to take his painkillers at the end in order to be able to “feel the suffering of Jesus” as revealed by JDD.
However, none of his loved ones expected to see him die. His family thought he would live for many more years. “We were all in denial. Nothing had been prepared. Maybe we should have talked about it.” explains Marie Griessinger Tapie, visibly still touched by the disappearance of her father-in-law. The author also has two children with Laurent Tapie: Louis (born in February 2005) and Eva (born in November 2007). And Bernard Tapie’s youngest daughter, to whom he was very close, Sophie Tapie, also had her first child, César, in January 2024.
