The albums 1919 ” And ” The Academy in Peril » by John Cale will be remastered and released on November 15.

Two albums from John Cale’s early solo career will be reissued this fall. The Academy in Peril, the 1972 modern classic album, whose cover art was designed by Andy Warhol, will be officially reissued for the first time, and the 1973 album, Paris 1919, critically acclaimed, will be the subject of a deluxe edition. Both albums will be released on November 15 via Domino Records.

The deluxe edition of Paris 1919 includes previously unreleased takes, a new song, “ Fever Dream 2024: You’re a Ghost ”, and notes from Grayson Haver Currin, collaborator of Rolling Stone. The album Academy in Peril includes a bonus track, “ Temper “. Sound engineer Heba Kadry remastered each of them.

Revisiting past work is a double-edged sword for meCale said in a statement. Of course, that’s inevitable when you’ve been making music for 60 years or so. What is unique about this process with Domino is their desire to get it right. It’s not simply a question of reissuing something to celebrate an anniversary or to take advantage of a popular title from a catalog, but of finding new treasures and highlighting what made the album specific to the departure. »

After listening to the test pressings, it became apparent to me that the new mastering plays a major role in how these works will be presented, rather than simply being preservedhe continues. There are moments of clarity and even a laugh or two when revisiting not only the music, but remembering the sessions (and antics) that made up what became these two recordings. It is with pleasure that I share them with you… once again. »

Earlier this year, Cale released his 18th solo album, Poptical Illusion. “ No one since Leonard Cohen has enjoyed such a creative boom in his 80s, which makes sense since neither was ever exactly the star-eyed idealistic type, even in their younger years years ”, remarked Rolling Stone in a review.

In an interview given on the occasion of the album’s release, John Cale looked back on his career, and in particular on Warhol’s contribution to the cover of The Academy in Peril.I had a row of Kodachrome photos, he took them and gently laid them on the pagehe told Rolling Stone. We were very far from the idea of putting them all in order and designing something correctly. But it had a charm that was really great. We therefore learn a lot about our degree of rigidity [en travaillant avec lui]. »
