“Shortly after passing through customs…”

Daisy Borghs’ family from Pelt, Limburg, were stranded in Ibiza due to a major computer outage, which brought air traffic to a standstill at Eindhoven Airport. “We have an extra half-day in Ibiza, and we are trying to make the most of it,” Daisy told our colleagues at Belang van Limburg yesterday.

The disruption at the airport grounded not only planes in Eindhoven, but also those en route to the airport, leaving many travellers stranded.

Among them were Jurgen Schildermans, Daisy Borghs and their 10-year-old son Lander, who were due to return to Eindhoven on Wednesday 28th after a week’s holiday in Ibiza. “Our flight was scheduled for 17:05. We had checked in our luggage early in the morning, but shortly after going through customs we discovered that our flight had been cancelled,” explained Daisy.

At first, the situation was unclear, and the travellers did not know what was happening. “We collected our luggage and waited for instructions. An employee from our travel agency came to clarify things. He informed us that there were computer problems in Eindhoven. Some of us could have left the same day, but in the end, everyone had to stay an extra night,” the mother said.

Back at their hotel on Wednesday around 3pm, Daisy and her family found themselves in the same room as the week before. “It’s all-inclusive again, and the extra night is covered. We only have to pay for the taxi, but the airline will reimburse us. We’ll fly back to Eindhoven tomorrow morning at 8:50am,” explained Daisy.

For Daisy and her family, the delay didn’t have much of an impact. “Some passengers were due to return to work tomorrow and had to inform their employers. Fortunately, Jurgen and I don’t return to work until next week, so it’s not a problem for us. There was a bit of panic at first, but in the end it’s an opportunity to enjoy ourselves a bit more. We’ll go swimming later and try to make this extra day enjoyable,” said Daisy, who is now back home in Pelt.
