NFP claims Emmanuel Macron has only “two choices left”

For the 51st day in a row, the French woke up to a resigned government at the head of the country this Thursday, September 5. Emmanuel Macron has still not appointed a new Prime Minister. An “impasse” in which he is “pushing the country” which now leaves him with “two choices” according to the New Popular Front which published a press release this Thursday.

The first? “A government of the New Popular Front, which came out on top in the ballot boxes,” jointly write the candidate for Matignon Lucie Castets, the coordinator of LFI Manuel Bompard, the First Secretary of the PS Olivier Faure, the National Secretary of the PCF Fabien Roussel and the National Secretary of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier.

The second? “A government of the presidential camp that could only be maintained in place thanks to a tacit agreement with the extreme right.” Which would be, for the union of the left, “a total negation of the legislative elections which saw the French put the New Popular Front in the lead and massively reject an arrival in power of the National Rally.”

With the Republican front that was formed, the NFP won 182 deputies against 143 for the RN. In terms of votes, the far-right party won 10.1 million votes and the united left more than 7 million.

Despite Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint Lucie Castets to Matignon so far, the leaders of the left are reiterating their demand. “It is high time to ask the New Popular Front and its candidate to form a government,” they declare, pointing out the “failure” behind the head of state’s refusal “of any Prime Minister” “on the pretext of avoiding a censure” in the Assembly.

Before adding: “We renew our desire to build agreements text by text in Parliament on the basis of our proposals, as has been recalled on numerous occasions by all members” of the NFP “in recent weeks”.

The NFP thus says it is “at the disposal of parliamentary groups in the National Assembly and the Senate, outside the extreme right, to discuss (their) political priorities”.

According to the United Left, the “maintenance of the resigning government” is a “mistake”. It believes that “each day of blockage of our institutions makes the task of the next government, which will be responsible for straightening out the country after it, more difficult”.

“The response to social, climatic and democratic emergencies is cruelly awaited. The President of the Republic must now stop obstructing it,” conclude the leaders of the union of the left.
