“I was fascinated by the way others looked at me” in Zorro, says Jean Dujardin

interview – Jean Dujardin is very comfortable under the cape, hat and mask of the vigilante in the series which will be available this Friday on Paramount +

Zorro is back with his cape and big hat! The masked vigilante, alter ego of the noble Don Diego de la Vega, takes on the features of Jean Dujardin for a new series, broadcast from this Friday on Paramount +. Benjamin Charbit and Noé Debré have seriously modernized the adventures of the wrongdoer by adding a dynamic wife played by Audrey Dana.

André Dussollier as the ghostly father, Eric Elmosnino as the villain and the always sublime Grégory Gadebois as Sergeant Garcia complete a quality cast for eight episodes full of adventures, thwarted loves, good-natured humor and political shenanigans in Mexico in the early 1920s. A good opportunity to meet Jean Dujardin again who talks about the hero with infectious enthusiasm.

How do you feel when you see yourself in Zorro’s costume for the first time?

I don’t have an oversized ego. I think about the character, not about myself. So it wasn’t a return to my own childhood because I was in the job. But I was fascinated by the way other people looked at me. It was very intimidating to see them looking at me. Everyone has an image of Zorro in their head. Seeing it in other people’s eyes was impressive.

What was Zorro to you before you played him?
